Abestos Cement Pipes
In response to the W5 television program episode that aired over the weekend of March 26, 2023 about asbestos cement water mains, PUG Services Corp. would like to share some technical resources below for reference on the subject.
Health Canada and the World Health Organization have concluded that there is no consistent, convincing evidence that asbestos ingested through water is harmful to your health. If you drink water containing asbestos fibres, you eliminate the fibres, mostly through feces. For this reason, Health Canada has not established drinking water guidelines for asbestos.
We currently have around 4.7 km of AC pipe in Peterborough, which is less than 1% of the total length of water mains
