Transfer of water operations and Riverview Park and Zoo to the City
February 2, 2024
To All Our Customers,
On December 11, 2023 the City of Peterborough Council approved in principle the transfer of the water operations operating as the Peterborough Utilities Commission (“PUC”), including the Riverview Park and Zoo (“RPZ”), to the City.
Under a service arrangement model, the City of Peterborough Holdings Inc. (“COPHI”) subsidiary company provides to the PUC operations all of the employees and related supporting assets and systems to run the PUC operations.
The Board of the City of Peterborough Holdings Inc. (“COPHI”) recognizes that the City directly holds sole ownership and control of the PUC operations and has the unilateral right to determine what is done with the PUC operations, including the Riverview Park & Zoo, as outlined in the December 11, 2023, Council resolutions.
The COPHI Board recognizes that the primary purpose of PUC operations is to provide best-in-class delivery of safe drinking water to the Peterborough community, and we expect that the City’s takeover of the PUC, including the Riverview Park & Zoo, will be without service impact.
We expect the transfer of business operations will be completed expeditiously and prudently. Timing of the transition has yet to be determined by the City.
